Originator Engine

Raise Green are a Boston-based sustainability startup, who's goal is to democratise green energy. Led by a Franz Hochstrasser, former Obama appointee on energy and climate, they engaged IBM and myself to design and build their Originator Engine.

Raise Green is designed to empower communities tired of waiting for action on climate and social impact.

They engaged IBM and myself to help build digital experience that would empower climate entrepreneurs to start and finance their businesses and local climate projects by removing obstacles and equipping them with all the tools and resources that they would need.

The Design Thinking Workshop

The Workshop

The Raise Green team visited the London studio and I facilitated a 3 day workshop. The workshop focussed on the end-to-end process of applying for and setting up a crowdfunding campaign for a solar energy project.

As part of facilitation; I planned, ran and synthesised outcomes of the workshop.

Service Design

During the workshop we mapped out the entire As-is process for setting up a solar project in the USA. The complexity was obvious, and over the next few weeks I used the outcomes of the workshop to map out the To-be User flow for the new Originator Engine.

UX Design

As the UX Lead, I was responsible for leading a the design team in the curation of the end to end experience. After the workshop it became clear that if we were going to deliver the solution in time we would need to create a number of reusable template screens, which could be rendered with the specific fields as the user moves through them.

The template types can be seen below.

Outcome

The modular approach taken meant that my team designed, tested and iterated on 72 screens in 1 week.

The Originator Engine was designed and delivered in 6 weeks. The solution allowed Raise Green to enter a second round of seed funding, with a further IBM engagement kicking off in 2022.
